Journalists and truth

Here is the conflict with modern mainstream media and their viewers - they don't abide by their own code(s).

Supposedly they are to seek the truth. I define truth thru the Huna, "Effectivness is the measure of truth." So truth would then be useful. Constant negative controversy, slanted in content - isn't truth as it isn't useful. Acid test is - will this article or story help me improve my life or quality of living? If not, turn if off or put it down. If the whole program or magazine/website/newspaper is so filled - skip it entirely and seek out other sources.

Society of Professional Journalists: Code of Ethics: "Members of the Society of Professional Journalists believe that public enlightenment is the forerunner of justice and the foundation of democracy. The duty of the journalist is to further those ends by seeking truth and providing a fair and comprehensive account of events and issues. Conscientious journalists from all media and specialties strive to serve the public with thoroughness and honesty. Professional integrity is the cornerstone of a journalist's credibility. Members of the Society share a dedication to ethical behavior and adopt this code to declare the Society's principles and standards of practice."
