A definition of news stories

This definition is pretty workable. Essentially, the model is a set one, with facts and pictures plugged in as found. Only point missing is a description of the pattern itself, which generally has to contain an unresolvable conflict (a continuing problem with no apparent solution).

Poynter Online - EPIC 2014: The Future is Now:

"News stories, we reasoned, are collections of related facts and quotes, strung together into pre-fab narratives each designed to appeal to the broadest possible audience."
